“The UberCloud HPC Experiment: Helping Bridge the Gap Between Potential and Realized Benefits of High-Performance Cloud Computing for Engineering Simulation” ( presented at the NAFEMS World Congress, June 9-12, 2013)
Profiled in depth the entire MCAE market, players, technology and business trends, and then developed scenarios for major client’s possible further penetration into the MCAE market. Included examining and understanding the convergence of traditional MCAE and ECAE/EDA into Mechatronics solutions and opportunities, including Model-Based System Engineering (MBSE).
Aided a joint venture of two established MCAE resellers/consulting firms located outside the U.S. to further understand and penetrate an energy industry market within the U.S.
Developed and started the implementation of a break-out strategy for a U.S. software company with good technology but low market profile.
Recruited a European distributor for a U.S. software company.
Assisted NAFEMS expansion to include Systems Engineering in its coverage reach, by representing NAFEMS at the kick-off meeting of the new relationship between NAFEMS and INCOSE (International Council on System Engineering) at the INCOSE International Workshop in January ’13 in Jacksonville, FL, where the NAFEMS-INCOSE joint System Modeling and Simulation Working Group (SMSWG) held its formation meeting.
Currently functioning as a Mentor/Supervisor of 6 Teams in the UberCloud HPC Experiment, an activity involving over 500 companies/participants from 40+ countries. This Experiment started in the Summer of 2012 (25 Teams of 4: HPC Expert/Team Leader, Hardware Resource Provider, Software Resource Provider, End User) and is in the middle of Round 4 (over 110 Teams in total). The objective is to identify and overcome real obstacles to bridging the gap between the technological potential of Cloud Computing for simulation (initially MCAE, but expanding into biotechnology for Rounds 3, 4 and beyond) and the actual achievement of practical results by real end-users. Each Team of 4 usually includes people/companies from multiple continents.
